CAB...OH CAB...YOU ARE LEGEND

WO(MEN)

Ok, so I got tired of inundating my friends with my general ramblings, inquistions and random ponderings soI decided to vacate and set up camp in blogland. This way I get shit off my chest and the choice is there if you wish to find out what goes on in my mind. I am afraid I am a product of the self indulgent generation where we all seem to think that everyone wants to know what we think. But hey I promise to try and keep it as fresh as possible for you, whoever you may be.

I'm currently on my second coffee, listening to Mos and thinking about Men and Women, Boys and Girls and the role we play. How do we find balance between being dominating, submissive, fueled by testorone or crying like a bitch when your oestrogen levels peak. It doesn't just stop at bioliogy, I mean how have our roles been layed out for us by the world?

Why can women show weakness and Men can't and why when a women is strong she is a bitch or a lesbian and when a man is in touch with his emotions he is considered soft? WTF? And how far is too far to conform to these roles wihout losing your own sense of identity?

Without sounding too much like a hard core feminist, I have realised that generally strong women are seen as a threat. I'll give you an exmplae, about a year ago I was in a bar with a friend and two gentlemen came over with their general macking tactics at the ready and began by bombarding us with lukewarm compliments and had no real interest in what we were really about. Instead of acting like they expected, which would be to blush, act coy accept their offers of a drink and willingly go home with them, I took control of the conversation and tried to lose the quiet laughable 'pulling tactics' that were by now going into overdrive.
Before long we were laughing, joking pushing eachother, reciting song lyrics and one commented..."You are actually quite witty for a girl"...At which point I asked him to elaborate. He replied "You know most women talk about magazines, shopping or shoes"...I sighed.
So this had what it has come to, the sterotypical female. Obsessed with celebrity, clothes and aesthetics.

Then a thought occured to me, none of my friends are really like that, we are all intelligent, independant, strong, opinionated, are we an elite? Is there only a select few who truly break the boundaries of gender roles. I know I do.
